Recently we’ve had to do a bit of rebranding and redesigning to follow the Spotify Design Guidelines. This gave me a great opportunity to make some changes to MySpotify and to pick up a project I haven’t worked on in a while.

Rebranded to NewTunes

The name has been changed from MySpotify to NewTunes. I chose the name NewTunes because I want to shift the app's focus more towards music recommendations rather than statistics tracking.

Currently, there are dozens of Spotify stat trackers on the internet, each with various tracking functionalities such as graphs and minute trackers. To differentiate my app, I want to concentrate more on helping users discover new music and artists while still allowing them to enjoy fun features with their top tracks.

Furthermore, I plan to add more social aspects to the website. Currently, users have the ability to share their top tracks and artists, but what if we take it up a notch? More details will be revealed in the coming months.

Some changes to the website, only temporarily

While working on the new redesign of the website, I’ve temporarily altered the way the website looks to abide by the Spotify Design Guidelines. Some changes include:

These changes are all temporary and may have some minor problems (especially for those on mobile) so I hope to have these all fixed once the redesign is rolled out.

We’re going open source!

Right now there were two versions of this app, the version on this website and a lightweight open source one on GitHub.

The new redesign of the website will be fully open source. So there will be only one version available on both GitHub and the website.

Bonus

Here’s a short sneak peak of the new website for those that are interested:

Hope you’re as excited as I am for the weeks to come. Stay tuned for more updates and new features as we continue to grow and evolve as NewTunes!
